Houston airports scramble to resume operations after Beryl

HOUSTON — Houston airports are working to restore operations after Hurricane Beryl forced airlines to cancel flights Monday morning at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).

To fully resume operations, Houston Airports said it must first access its facilities and make necessary repairs. Crews are clearing debris and fallen trees from Will Clayton Parkway at IAH and from Airport Boulevard and Telephone Road near Hobby.

Houston’s 28 airport partner airlines are updating their flight schedules. Some airlines are offering limited flights Monday night, and others are scheduled for Tuesday.

Airlines may rebook passengers traveling from Houston between July 7, 2024 and July 9, 2024, at no additional cost to the passenger.

Airlines will return planes to Houston Monday night to repatriate out-of-town Houstonians and be ready to resume limited flights Tuesday.

Getting to the airport can be a challenge. Authorities have advised travelers to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.

Houston Airports said that even though the sun is shining, Houston residents should recognize the “real risks” involved in trying to travel to the airport in the days immediately following a hurricane.

Officials are asking travelers to be patient as they may experience extended TSA and ticketing lines, limited concessions, amenities and essential services in the days following Beryl as employees may have difficulty getting to work.
