Preparing for Beryl: Houston SPCA moves horses to rehabilitation center

HOUSTON — The Houston SPCA equine team was busy Sunday preparing for the high winds of Tropical Storm Beryl and heavy rains. They moved 18 rescued horses from their isolated rehabilitation property to their equine rehabilitation center on the Houston SPCA campus. Currently, they have a total of 24 horses,

The SPCA’s equine manager said animals can often sense climate change coming.

“Horses and animals like that, they really sense the weather before it happens. So a lot of them are already a little bit more nervous and excited,” said Linnea Wood, equine manager for the Houston SPCA. “And I feel like they’ve all handled it really, really well.”

The SPCA also has three pigs, 12 chickens and a peacock in its care at the rehabilitation centre.

If necessary, they have boats ready to intervene in case of rescue of pets in case of flood.
