Criminal incident in Baku settlement leads to death of police officer

The criminal incident in the Surakhani settlement in Baku resulted in the death of a police officer, Azernews reports, citing the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry.

Mammadov Mehman Salahaddin oghlu, born in 1983, who has already been convicted eight times under various articles of the Criminal Code and wanted for theft, resisted arrest with a knife when he was arrested by a police officer in the capital’s Surakhani district on July 6.

M. Mammadov stabbed a police officer on duty and tried to escape. Although he was seriously injured, police captain Fakhraddin Nasirov prevented the attempt, arrested the offender and handed him over to other police officers.

Although the injured policeman was taken to hospital, his life could not be saved.
