Pastor arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Kanchipuram

A 54-year-old pastor was arrested under the provisions of the POCSO Act by the Kancheepuram All Women Police on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

A senior officer of the Kancheepuram police district said the girl was studying at CSI Church High School. As her mother had died due to health reasons, the teenager was staying in the church premises. On January 1 this year, the priest, S. Devairakkam, sexually assaulted the girl.

Acting on a petition submitted by the villagers of Venkatesa Palayam to the Chief Minister’s Special Cell for investigation, the Kancheepuram Child Welfare Committee conducted an inquiry and on its recommendation, ordered the arrest of the pastor.

The accused was later brought before a justice of the peace and sent to prison.
