APEX, N.C. (WTVD) — A cybersecurity incident is said to be responsible for the failure of some city systems in Apex.

The city specifically named the billing of utility costs and the provision of building permits as services that were temporarily taken offline.

On Tuesday morning, Apex’s IT department discovered issues that indicated what the city calls a “cybersecurity incident.” The city launched an investigation and contacted the North Carolina Joint Cybersecurity Task Force and federal police.

Apex wrote on its website that thanks to existing emergency plans, the city could continue regular operations of security and emergency services without any problems.

“We are committed to resolving the situation quickly and responsibly by working with legal advisors, technical experts and cybersecurity professionals,” the city wrote in a statement.

Ongoing updates on the situation will be posted on the city’s website.
