According to reports, one person is dead in a shooting at a Newport Beach mall, followed by a police chase

One person was reportedly killed in a shooting outside a mall in Newport Beach, California, on Tuesday afternoon.

Newport Beach police said there was an incident near the Fashion Island Shopping Center around 4pm and asked people on X (formerly Twitter) to avoid the area.

Firefighters found a dead person in the parking lot in front of the mall’s Barnes & Noble, according to CBS News and KNBC.

Two people were shot and an elderly woman died, while the other victim was seriously injured, KTTV reported.

USA TODAY has reached out to Newport Beach police and fire departments for confirmation.

A suspect arrested after a police chase

Shortly after the shooting, officers pursued the alleged suspects, which led to a chase from Orange County into Los Angeles County, according to CBS News. Two of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle near Los Alamito and evaded arrest, CBS News reported.
