Thunderstorms tonight, milder conditions on Sunday

Happy Saturday evening everyone. After getting through our storms this morning and having a hot and humid afternoon, we’re starting off this evening with a First Alert Weather Day as our cold front continues to move south across the Ozarks. It’s here because our cold front moving through the Ozarks will bring scattered showers and storms, some of which could be heavy, with wind and hail being the main threat.

With a severe weather warning in effect until 11:00 p.m. Saturday night, FutureCast expects isolated showers and thunderstorms to persist until the situation eases at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

After a quiet Sunday morning, our cold front will still be around, allowing for more isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms to develop near the state line and across northern Arkansas during the afternoon. Expected activity should remain mostly below extreme levels and die down by sunset Sunday evening.

Behind our cold front, we’ll welcome a pleasant drop in temperatures. On Sunday, temperatures will drop for many of us from morning lows around 70°F to afternoon highs between 80°F and 86°F. That will feel good with lower humidity as we wind down your weekend.

On Monday, another wave before the ridge re-forms could bring more isolated showers and thunderstorms west of Highway 65 in the afternoon. Other than that, everyone should expect partly sunny skies and afternoon highs in the 30s on Monday.

Tuesday is expected to be a dry day with mostly sunny skies. However, as we pass the center of the ridge, Tuesday will become hot and humid again. Starting Wednesday and into next weekend, the moving ridge will spawn another storm system that will bring us intermittent showers and storms to keep an eye on.

You can see from the forecast trend below that isolated thunderstorms are likely starting Wednesday, with the best chance of rain occurring on July 4th.

While the rain chances for next week don’t sound too encouraging for those with outdoor plans, I think there will be dry spells and things can still change between now and then. On the positive side, the rain chances will increase from highs around 35 degrees on Wednesday to below 35 degrees on July 4th and above 25 degrees next weekend.
