Driver arrested after collision with house in Deerfield that caused fire

DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A driver was arrested in Deerfield after crashing into a home and causing a fire Saturday.

According to Deerfield police, at 12:58 a.m. Saturday, emergency responders received reports of explosions near Sunrise Ave, River Road and Juniper Drive. Officers then found a burning house on River Road, into which a large SUV had crashed and was also ablaze.


The driver of the SUV suffered a minor injury to his leg but refused treatment. The driver was arrested for DUI (3rd offense) and faces additional charges in Greenfield District Court on Monday.

At the time of the fire and accident, there were no residents or pets in the house. River Road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Deerfield, Greenfield, Sunderland, Whately, Turners Falls, Northampton and Conway fire departments, as well as Massachusetts State Police and Shelburne Control assisted with the incident.
