Shark attacks man in Florida

The man, about 40 years old, was flown to a hospital by helicopter in critical condition.

A shark attacked a man in Florida, seriously injuring his arm, officials said.

The attack occurred around 11 a.m. Friday in West Rock near the port of Fernandina, north of Jacksonville on the Florida-Georgia border, said Alicia Tarancon, spokeswoman for the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, a man in his 40s, was flown by helicopter to a hospital in critical condition, Tarancon said.

This attack came after a well-known surfer and lifeguard was killed by a shark in Hawaii on Sunday.

Tamayo Perry, 49, had been a lifeguard with Honolulu Ocean Safety since 2016. He was a local surf coach and competed in the Pipeline Master Trials for years, according to his official bio on his coach page. Perry appeared in the 2002 film “Blue Crush,” as well as episodes of “Hawaii Five-O” and “The Bridge,” according to IMDb.

“The world knew Tamayo as a surfer and an actor, but to those who knew him best, he was a man of deep faith … who is now gone too soon,” his wife, Emilia Perry, said in an exclusive interview with ABC News. “I am so sad and devastated. But I also have a strange peace in my heart knowing he is in a better place.”
