Russia attacks residential area in Kharkiv, at least 4 injured

UKRAINE, KHARKIV, June 27 – Russian military attacked a residential area in Kharkiv at around 5:50 p.m., wounding at least four people, according to Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov.

Russia has been frequently attacking Kharkiv region and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city located 30 kilometers from the border, since the start of the large-scale invasion, targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. The attacks have intensified since Russia began its new offensive in the north of the region in May 2024.

The Russian attack damaged houses and a dormitory at one of Kharkiv’s universities, said Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov. He had previously written that a university had been damaged, but later corrected this.

Among the four people injured in the Russian attack, three suffered an acute stress reaction and one man suffered a blast injury to his leg.

Police and other emergency services are deployed at the impact site. The type of weapon used by Russia is currently being determined.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address on June 22 that Russia had dropped more than 2,400 glide bombs on Ukraine since the beginning of June, and about 700 of them had hit the Kharkiv region.
