21 million Miniverse “Make It Mini” toy sets recalled – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

A toy manufacturer announced on Tuesday that it is recalling around 21 million of its Miniverse “Make it Mini” toy sets because of the risk that the resin contained in the sets could cause burns or skin and respiratory irritation.

The recalled kits contain resins that, in liquid form, can cause skin, eye and respiratory irritation or sensitization if inhaled, touched or ingested, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. They include the “Make It Mini Appliances,” “Make It Mini Food” and “Make It Mini Lifestyle” kits.

The resins included in the kits can be used to mimic items such as a peanut butter jar, maple syrup or milk container, and when cured, they mimic food, the CPSC said. They were included in more than three dozen kits.

Officials say MGA Entertainment, the company behind the toys, has received 26 reports related to the recall, including reports of skin burns and irritation and respiratory irritation. One person reported that their asthma was triggered by the resin, according to the CPSC.

The agency identified the recalled kits by their item numbers and UPC codes, which are located on the back of the product packaging. The CPSC released the following list of recalled kits:

Officials urged kit owners to stop using kits with unused resin and contact MGA for a refund or replacement.

The toys were sold between October 2022 and June 2024 in numerous stores across the country, including Target, Walmart, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Aldi, and Hobby Lobby. They were also sold online on Amazon and other websites. They range in price from $7 to $52, depending on the model and whether they come in a boxed set.

The resins that led to the recall contained chemical substances that exceed the permitted levels in children’s products under the U.S. Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

According to the CPSC, the resins are no longer dangerous after curing.

Consumers can contact MGA by phone Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET or Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. ET at 800-222-4685. They can also reach MGA by email at [email protected] or online.
