Telangana Junior Doctors Association suspends strike after talks with DME

The junior doctors in Telangana have temporarily suspended their indefinite strike which began on Monday, June 24.

In a statement released on June 25, the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T-JUDA) said, “The Telangana Junior Doctors Association today discussed our pending demands with the DME lady and officials of the Health Department.”

According to the statement, they were assured that the following would be published by today:

1. A Government Order (GO) relating to budget sanction for hostel buildings at Osmania and Gandhi Medical College

2. A Government Order approving budgetary allocation for roads in Kakatiya Medical College

“If the two above-mentioned government orders are not issued by tomorrow, the strike will resume on June 27, 2024,” TJUDA’s statement said, adding that the Minister of Health has summoned representatives of all district committees to a meeting today, June 26.

As the strike is temporarily suspended, all medical services like outpatient department (OPD), elective examinations and ward duty will function as usual today. “If the above two government orders are not issued by tomorrow, the strike will resume on June 27, 2024,” TJUDA’s statement said.

Around 6,000 junior doctors from 26 medical colleges across Telangana participated in the indefinite strike accusing the state government of inaction in meeting their long-pending demands such as granting a green light for timely disbursement of stipends to junior doctors, junior surgeons and others.
