He said the injured man was a friend of Dugas. According to police, one of three suspects fired approximately 15 shots at the victim at the front entrance of the motel, striking the victim in the upper left arm and narrowly missing the victim’s girlfriend and the motel manager. The shooting caused extensive damage to the motel and two vehicles parked near the main entrance suffered multiple bullet holes. Since the drive-by shooting, authorities have been searching for Dugas, who is wanted on outstanding charges.

“As we got closer and closer and received a tip that the vehicle was seen in the Geuydan area, we received information and were able to obtain a search warrant and retrieve the vehicle,” Hardy said.

Abbeville police said they are investigating the drive-by shooting and have recently received information about who the other people involved in the drive-by may be. He adds that they did not release the information earlier mainly because of the integrity of the case.

To Dugas, he said, “We will hold Vermilion Parish and Abbeville will prosecute him through the district attorney’s office.”

“The city of Abbeville and the Abbeville Police Department really appreciate the help of the public, the citizens who are out there watching everything. They are our eyes and we need their help and everything they do to help us helps us help them and together we will be a force that criminals cannot reckon with,” he concluded.

Lafayette police are investigating the original domestic incident, while state police are investigating the use of force by officers. According to state police, one person was shot in the officer-involved shooting and no officers were injured. Dugas has a court date of 11 a.m. May 9
