The Atmore police arrested a Selma man on June 20 for theft.

Derrick Harris, 45, was charged with first-degree theft by deception, according to spokesman Sergeant Darrell McMann. McCann said the arrest came after APD officers were contacted by a local business about several tire orders totaling several thousand dollars.

“The business owner was contacted by an out-of-state resident whose credit card information had been stolen,” McMann said in a news release. “The business owner advised the officer that the suspect had just placed an order and would pick up the tires later that afternoon.”

McMann said officers returned around 1 p.m., made contact with Harris, detained him and arrested him. McCann said additional charges would be filed and Harris was taken to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
