Drug raid in Volusia County leads to 38 arrests after 8-month investigation

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office conducted a drug raid Thursday, arresting “most” of the 38 people accused of being involved in “a major drug trafficking ring,” the sheriff’s office announced this afternoon.

After an “eight-month, multi-jurisdictional investigation,” sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from “about a dozen” other agencies, conducted a series of raids on Thursday to arrest the suspects.

“It takes a team effort to bring down a drug trafficking organization like this one, and that’s exactly what we did in this investigation,” Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a new press release. “Today we put a number of drug dealers in jail and significantly curbed the supply of fentanyl, heroin and meth in our community. But we know our work is never done and we have to start again tomorrow.”

The Volusia Sheriff's Office is conducting Operation Wild-n-Out, which has identified 38 individuals accused of being involved in a drug trafficking ring in Volusia County, Thursday, June 20, 2024.

While most of the defendants were arrested Thursday, “the rest will be arrested in the coming hours and days,” according to the sheriff’s office.
