Ryan Garcia makes a deal where he is suspended and punished

On Thursday afternoon, a quick solution was found for Ryan Garcia’s positive PED tests before and after the fight for his April 20th Victory in New York over Devin Haney.

This solution is that Garcia has agreed to be suspended from something for one year retroactively to the fight date, loses his base salary of over $1 million and his victory by majority decision be overturned to a no contest.

Ryan Garcia agrees to suspension agreement and fine

Our insider Dan Rafael announced the news on Thursday evening.

The controversy reached its peak

A hearing had been threatened in which Garcia could have faced an even longer suspension because he had tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine not only the day before but also immediately after the fight.

Haney and his team had sent a legal letter to the NYSAC demanding a long suspension for Garcia and Also that the result be overturned to disqualification. Although this disqualification option has been used in the past, it is rare for a commission to overturn the decision regarding the winner of a fight.

Haney posted on Twitter/X on Thursday evening:

Garcia’s team reacts

Garcia, for his part, continued to insist that the positive tests were due to contaminated supplements he had taken in training, and his legal team released the following statement:

“Ryan has voluntarily submitted to random testing for many years, even out of competition, and has never had any problems,” the legal team said in a statement. “Ryan will continue to move the sport forward and actively advocate for reform. We hope that future changes to our system will address issues like this.”

“We want to thank all the fans who have continued to support Ryan, not only in the great moments, but also in the difficult times that life brings. He will be back in the ring soon and better than ever!”

Another variable in the controversy is that Garcia didn’t even come close to the weight of 140 pounds to challenge Haney’s WBC junior welterweight title. He then boasted that he intentionally knew he wouldn’t make the weight and therefore didn’t put his body through rigorous stress to try and lose another three pounds. This gave him an advantage that Haney didn’t have, which was right did be Weight loss to reach the 140 pound limit.

Haney, his father Bill and their team decided to start Golden Boy Boxing Main event at the Barclays Center, and Garcia knocked Haney down several times early in the fight and on his way to a point victory. The joy of the victory was short-lived, however, as the news of the positive doping test came out shortly after the fight.
