Man arrested after citizen reported breaking into several vehicles

TAR HEEL, NC (WECT) – A man was arrested after being identified through a call allegedly identifying him in the burglary of several vehicles at a tire shop in Tar Heel on June 17.

The caller told Bladen County 911 that the suspect was still in the area and provided a clear description of the vehicle and clothing. Officers soon found Christopher Darryle Hawkins, 49, of Fayetteville at a nearby gas station. An investigation immediately began and video footage showed Hawkins committing the crimes.

On June 17, 2024, Bladen County 911 received a call about a burglary of multiple vehicles at a tire shop in Tar Heel. The caller advised that the suspect was still in the area and gave a clear description of the suspect’s vehicle and clothing. Officers responded quickly and were able to locate the suspect at a nearby gas station. An immediate investigation began and video footage was received showing the suspect committing the alleged crimes.

Hawkins was charged with six counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, criminal damage, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
