13-year-old New York girl tied with shoelaces and raped in sick machete attack

A young girl was tied up with shoelaces and raped in a heinous machete attack in New York City. A suspect is in custody after the 13-year-old was sexually assaulted in Kissena Park in Flushing, Queens, on Thursday, June 13.

At 3:30 p.m., the girl and her 13-year-old schoolmate were approached by a man with a machete-like knife and forced into the forest.

The two were tortured with their cell phones and their hands were tied together while the man attacked the young girl, police said. The man was identified as a 25-year-old migrant from Ecuador, according to ABC.

The suspected perpetrator was discovered by local residents who recognized him on a video released by police around 1 a.m. The man was detained until police were called. No charges have yet been filed.

“The city said no,” said Police Chief John Chell. “The community response has been tremendous and that’s what you want. Thanks to the brave work of these kids who are scarred for life and the community, this person is off the streets.”

Police thanked the victims for their description of the person, including a prominent tattoo that allowed for a good sketch. The shoelace used to tie the children’s hands together was found.

A water bottle left behind by the alleged rapist was also found. The New York Police Department had previously offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
