Man reports unprovoked attack, gunshot wound and stabbing at a Walmart in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (KSLA) – A trip to the grocery store turned violent when a man was attacked at a Shreveport Walmart.

“I had never seen this guy, I had not seen him in the parking lot, there was no altercation,” Lonnie Blansit, who was attacked at the Walmart store in Shreve City, said in an exclusive interview with KSLA News 12.

During an altercation at Walmart in Shreve City on Friday, June 14, 2024, a man was stabbed and a gun went off inside the store.

Blansit said he was shopping for green beans on Friday when he was attacked for no reason by a man he did not know. He said he then pulled out his gun out of fear for his life.

“At this point, there’s a scramble for the gun, he grabs the gun. We tried to get the gun, he tries to get it, I try to stop him, the gun goes off,” Blansit recalled. “At this point, I still can’t get him off me.

“I call other customers for help. At this point, all the customers are just standing there filming with their phones. No one helps me.”

Blansit said the weapon jammed after firing and that he then removed the magazine from the weapon.

“I was trying to neutralize the threat and get him away from me, so I just stabbed and tried to back away. At that moment he falls to the ground and I back away and just stand there to see what’s going on. And then he jumps up and runs away.”

Ray Koch Jr. was there the day of the attack and witnessed the events.

“It was scary, especially the gunshot. I didn’t actually see the gun,” Koch said. “When the woman said ‘he has a gun, he has a gun,’ because they were fighting right around the corner, I was mostly praying for my safety.”

Shreveport police said the attack allegedly carried out by Davante Palmer was a random act and that Palmer was charged with simple assault.

“I don’t know the guy, I’ve never seen him for no reason,” Blansit said. “From what I understand, he sells water on the corner quite often. I don’t know if he’s homeless or what he does, but he sells water bottles on the corner.”
