20-year-old Williamsburg woman struck and killed by car on Outer Banks – Daily Press

A 20-year-old Williamsburg woman was struck and killed by a Jeep in Kill Devil Hills early Friday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at 1:08 a.m. at the intersection of US 158 and Ocean Acres Drive, one of the busiest intersections on the Outer Banks, when the pedestrian walked in front of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler traveling south in the outside lane of US 158.

The victim, identified as Ashley Elizabeth Williams, ran east onto the highway, “directly into the path” of the Jeep, Kill Devil Hills police said in a news release. She was not in the crosswalk at the time, police Lt. Julie A. Haner said.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators concluded that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash involving the Jeep’s driver, a 43-year-old woman from Kill Devil Hills, and no charges were filed, Haner said.
