The Houston Tennis Club serving its community on and off the court!

Houston, TX — The Houston Tennis Club was founded in 1980 as a safe space for people of all different identities, religions and lifestyles. A place to come together to play tennis without fear of being persecuted because of the way they are. The very diverse club welcomes players from all backgrounds, all ages, all levels of play, men and women. Club member Mason Purkis likes diversity.

“It’s up to anyone to come out and play, even if you’re gay, straight, male, female,” Purkis said. “All genders and identities are welcome and I think that’s why it feels so familiar.”

This year, many women joined us. Lucy Cevallos follows the club on Instagram, she contacted them to make sure allies could join them.

“I wanted to make sure I wasn’t encroaching on their space,” Cevallos said. “I reached out and said I wanted to join. They were super welcoming and said absolutely.”

At the end of the year, the Houston Tennis Club hosts its big HOUTEX fundraising tournament. Proceeds from the tournament are donated each year to a non-profit organization dedicated to making their community a better place to live.
