Local official shot dead in Zaporizhia, police said

According to the Ukrainian National Police, a local official was killed in downtown Zaporizhia on the morning of June 11.

An unknown man is said to have shot the officer four times with a firearm near a high-rise building and fled. The victim suffered injuries and died in hospital, police said.

While police did not disclose the officer’s name, Hromadske, citing anonymous sources, reported that the man killed was Maksym Denshchyk, who worked as director of the legal support department of the Zaporizhia city administration.

In May, he was reportedly suspended pending an internal investigation. Further details were not disclosed.

The police have launched an investigation and are searching for the attacker.
