Woman raped in Huddersfield street – manhunt launched for attacker

A woman was raped in Huddersfield in the early hours of this morning.

West Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the attack in Great Northern Street, which occurred between midnight and 12.30am today, Tuesday 4 June.

Officials say that a “full investigation” is currently underway and the victim is being supported by specially trained officers. A crime scene is on site as part of the investigation. The rapist is currently at large and police are working hard to track him down.

In a brief statement released this afternoon, a police spokesman said: “Police are investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman in Huddersfield in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 4 June).

“The offence is said to have taken place between midnight and 00:30 on Great Northern Street in Huddersfield.

“The investigation is still at an early stage. Extensive enquiries are currently underway to clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify the suspect involved. The victim is currently being assisted by specially trained officers.”
