Abortion: Supreme Court allows 15-year-old rape victim to have abortion | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat state High Court on Monday directed doctors at Sir T Hospital in Bhavnagar to medically terminate the pregnancy of a 15.5-year-old girl from Botad. The rape victim and her father sought permission from the High Court for abortion after the teenager became pregnant by a man who was taken into custody by the Botad police for violating the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. After a panel of doctors at the Bhavnagar hospital examined the girl and found the abortion possible, the High Court directed them to immediately perform the procedure under the Medically Justified Termination of Pregnancy Act. The High Court also directed the doctors to take tissue samples from the foetus for DNA identification in view of the pending criminal proceedings against the accused.
