York County Police Search for Fugitive

Newberry Township police are searching for 40-year-old Nicholas Buchanan, who fled from police after barricading himself in a room with a gun.

YORK COUNTY, Pennsylvania – Police in York County are searching for a man who reportedly fled from officers after barricading himself in a room with a gun.

According to Newberry Township police, officers were called to a residence in the 2300 block of Old Trail Road at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to investigate a reported trespassing.

At the scene, police reportedly learned that 40-year-old Nicholas Buchanan, who is wanted on other charges, was in the apartment. While officers attempted to locate Buchanan on his outstanding warrant, Buchanan stated he had a gun and attempted to barricade himself in a room.

According to police, Buchanan attempted to detain other officers, but reportedly escaped from the apartment and fled from officers.

This was an isolated incident and at no time was there a threat to the public, police confirmed. Traffic on Old Trail Road was diverted during the incident on Saturday for safety and operational reasons.

Newberry Police were assisted by Fairview Township Police, Pennsylvania State Police, York County Sheriff’s Office and Newberry Township Fire Department.

Anyone with information on Nicholas Buchanan’s whereabouts is asked to contact police at 911.
