Ryan Garcia speaks of incredible stress after being arrested for vandalism

In a statement released by a publicist, Ryan Garcia made the statement one day after his arrest for vandalism at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

After his arrest, the 25-year-old boxer was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, according to a statement from the Beverly Hills Police Department. No information was given about his condition.

“You all know that I have been dealing with incredible stress and pressure and now have the devastating news about my mother’s health,” Garcia said in a statement released Sunday by publicist Sarah Fink.

Garcia’s mother Lisa announced last week that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer – during a turbulent time for the boxer.

He faces a possible suspension after testing positive for a banned substance the day before and the day of his fight against Devin Haney on April 20. Garcia’s legal counsel has attributed the positive test to contaminated nutritional supplements.

In the weeks leading up to his fight against Haney, Garcia showed erratic behavior and then caused a major upset with a majority decision win.

“Ryan has spoken openly about his mental health struggles over the years and is currently battling tremendous emotional distress,” Lupe Valencia, Garcia’s manager, said in a statement released Sunday. “The support and understanding of fans and the public is critical as he navigates these personal challenges.”
