Pueblo woman arrested by Colorado authorities on suspicion of child abuse

Detectives from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a woman on suspicion of child abuse. Two children were affected, one of whom suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to the sheriff’s office, Samantha Kimberly was taken into custody by authorities Saturday night on charges of child abuse causing serious bodily injury, as well as a second charge of child abuse resulting from the injuries to her two sons, ages 3 and 14.

Officers responded to a report from a home in Pueblo West around 5 p.m. Saturday that a three-year-old was unconscious and experiencing abnormal breathing. When officers arrived, medical personnel were tending to the child and saw visible injuries on the child’s body.

According to the sheriff’s office, the child was taken to a local hospital and eventually flown to a hospital in Colorado Springs.

The sheriff’s office said the 3-year-old is currently in a Colorado Springs hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the 14-year-old is being treated for injuries at a local hospital and is now under the care of the Department of Human Services.
