Child from Stockholm, New Jersey, dies in Maine after outdoor incident

According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, the child’s family was on vacation in Limerick at the time of the incident.

LIMERICK, Maine – A New Jersey child died Wednesday after police said he sustained an unintentional injury while playing outside in Limerick.

It happened around noon on North Shore Drive on Saturday, June 1, said Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, in a news release.

Maine State Police investigators found that six-year-old Lucy Morgan was playing outside with her ten-year-old brother when the aluminum shaft of a badminton racket came loose from its wooden handle, causing the shaft to strike the girl in the head and pierce her skull.

She was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford and then flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland. She died of her injuries Wednesday, Moss said.

The children and their parents are from Stockholm, New Jersey, and were vacationing in Maine at the time of the incident, Moss said.

β€œThe Maine State Police would like to extend their deepest condolences to the Morgan family,” the press release said.
