Surrey RCMP respond to incident on 88 Avenue

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of Surrey said a man was arrested following an incident at a home that also led to a road closure on Monday.

According to police, a 911 call came in around 1:30 p.m. from a residential building in the area between 162nd Street and 88th Avenue.

The Mounties said their investigation found a man associated with the residence who was armed and barricaded inside the house.

They say a man was taken into custody around 5:45 p.m. on Monday.

During the incident, 88th Avenue was closed between 164th and 160th Streets and 162nd Street, but the streets were reopened later that evening as police cleared the scene.

There was a heavy police presence in the area, but the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated that there was “no threat to public safety” at this time.

According to police, there were no injuries.

A caller to CityNews indicated that schools in the area may have been locked down in response to events throughout the day.
