Teenager arrested after death of person in stabbing in Sumter County

A 16-year-old was arrested after two people were found with stab wounds in Sumter County Saturday night. According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a stabbing in the 6600 block of County Road 148 near Lake Okahumpka at around 10:11 p.m. When officers arrived, they found an adult and juvenile victim who had been stabbed. The Sheriff’s Office said both victims received emergency medical treatment and were transported by helicopter to the hospital for further treatment. The juvenile victim, 15-year-old Connor Gill, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:19 a.m. Sunday. The adult victim is still recovering from his injuries. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 16-year-old suspect showed up unannounced at the home where the victim was having a pajama party and stabbed Gill after he answered the door. The identity of the 16-year-old suspect is not being released due to his age. The adult victim was also stabbed by the suspect after he went to see what was going on, and a third person was threatened by the suspect. Michael Carr lives in the home where the incident occurred, and he said he witnessed the stabbing. “The first thing he did was swing at Connor, and then we went that way and he turned to me,” Carr said. “I went back into the kitchen where there were knives and tried to protect myself, and he told me not to get involved.” Carr said the adult victim who was stabbed was his best friend and Connor’s father. He said Connor and the suspect knew each other. “He’s a good kid. You know, he was just great. To take the life of a 15-year-old is just totally wrong,” Carr said. The juvenile suspect had fled on foot from the home where the stabbing occurred. The sheriff’s office said both the suspect and Gill were homeschooled after leaving Sumter County schools. Sumter County Sheriff’s officials later found the juvenile suspect, who was then arrested and taken to the Sumter County Jail. He is now charged with first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and armed burglary.
