Berlin police warn of card theft at Dollar General in the city – NBC Connecticut

Berlin police are warning anyone who recently visited Dollar General to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity after a card skimmer was discovered.

Police said anyone who recently visited the Farmington Avenue store and paid by card should monitor their accounts for suspicious activity after a card skimmer was discovered at one of the checkout terminals.

Authorities said they did not know how long the card skimmer was present.

They recommend that customers pay attention to alignment issues between the card reader and the bezel underneath. Skimmers are often placed on top of the actual card reader so that it protrudes.

Police said people should also feel around near the reader and try to move it to see if it comes off easily. This often indicates card skimming.
