New prediction speculates if Trae Young or Dejounte Murray could be traded during the draft

The Atlanta Hawks are arguably the most interesting team to watch in the 2024 NBA Draft. They won the NBA Draft Lottery and now they have to decide what to do with the No. 1 overall pick, may it end by being a trade or if he stays #1 and takes a player, probably Alex Sarr, Zaccharie Risacher or Donovan. Clingan. The Hawks will also be one of the more interesting teams this offseason due to possible trades involving Trae Young or Dejounte Murray.

Could any of them be traded in the draft? A prediction from Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley speculated whether a big trade could happen on draft night and mentioned Atlanta’s backcourt duo as two possibilities:

“Conditions are perfect for a hyperactive commercial market this summer.

No difference maker was moved at the February trade deadline. A number of teams must either add more to compete or drop out of the championship race, several stars have already surfaced in the rumor mill and franchises must watch their payrolls as the most damaging parts of the restrictions of the second apron come into force. practical.

“A lot of pieces will be moved this offseason,” an Eastern Conference executive told Howard Beck of The Ringer in February. “There are going to be options, high profile guys who will ask to be moved.”

Look for at least one of these moves in the first round of the draft.

While this draft class may not have a true blue-chip prospect, no one is saying they are devoid of talent. Just look at the player comparisons listed for the top five picks in the latest mock draft from B/R’s Jonathan Wasserman: Harrison Barnes (rock-solid start), Evan Mobley (prized Cleveland prospect), Rudy Gobert (four times defensive player). of the year), Goran Dragić (third team All-Star and All-NBA) and Anthony Black (last summer’s No. 6 pick).

There is enough upside in this class that a first round pick, likely coupled with additional assets, should be able to produce one of the most talked about stars. Maybe it’s a marquee name like Donovan Mitchell or Trae Young. Maybe it’s someone like Brandon Ingram, Dejounte Murray, Darius Garland or Jarrett Allen, players without as much fame but with an All-Star honor on their resume.”

While I think one of these players will be traded this offseason, I don’t know if that will happen in the draft. There will be rumors that evening about potential deals that could be made and you can expect to see Murray and Young’s name come up. Murray was being shopped before the trade deadline, but there was a lot of speculation about Young as well.

It was no secret that the Los Angeles Lakers attempted to trade for Hawks guard Dejounte Murray before last year’s trade deadline, but nothing happened, the Lakers and the Hawks having decided to stand by their teams. However, at one point it looked like a deal between the two teams could happen. According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, who covers the Lakers, wrote in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline:“The buzz on Murray is only growing — and to noisy levels. The Lakers and Hawks have discussed potential frameworks for a deal, including a release late last week centered on Russell, Hood-Schifino , the 2029 first-round pick and additional draft compensation, according to multiple team and league sources, talks have since stalled, but are expected to resume as the deadline approaches. You can read the entire article here.

It was reported that the Hawks did not want Russell back in a deal, but according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, a three-team deal was discussed between the Lakers, Nets and Hawks:

Multiple sources say that before trading for Dennis Schröder, the Brooklyn Nets were in talks with the Lakers for Russell (LA getting Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks). This trade is dead between the Lakers and Hawks, but the Nets still need a top-notch guard. »

Pincus didn’t say what the Hawks were getting back in the deal, but I think it likely would have seen the Hawks getting Rui Hachimura, Hood-Schifino and recouping compensation from the Lakers.

Will these discussions be revisited on draft night or later this offseason? Stay tuned to find out.
