Winnfield man arrested for unauthorized handling of machine gun

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB) – A Winnfield man was arrested following a traffic stop Possession of marijuana And unauthorized handling of a machine gun.

According to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:49 p.m. on May 3, officers were patrolling Highway 6 East and stopped a 2000 Honda passenger vehicle for a traffic violation.

The driver was identified as Alexander Malik Perry, 20, of Winnfield. Officers found and seized two bags of suspected marijuana and a Glock 19 semi-automatic handgun modified with a “Glock Swith” or “Auto Sears” conversion kit and a fully loaded 50-round magazine.

NPSO said the “Glock Switch” or “Auto Sears” can convert a semi-automatic handgun into an automatic firearm capable of firing 1,100-1,200 rounds per minute. These devices, illegally attached to handguns and semi-automatic rifles, can turn them into potential machine guns.

Offenders caught in possession of a modified weapon face up to ten years in prison.

Perry was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on the above charges where he is awaiting bail.
