2 students attacked by dogs at Lathrop Elementary School

LATHROP, Missouri – A day of fun ended with a frightening experience for students at Lathrop Elementary School on Friday.

According to Superintendent Dr. Adam Willard, students were participating in their annual outdoor sports festival around noon when two aggressive-looking dogs entered the school grounds and began attacking the students.

Local law enforcement responded quickly to the incident.

As teachers were bringing students into the building, one of the dogs aggressively approached one of the police officers, prompting another officer to shoot and kill him, Willard said.

Willard said two students were bitten and not seriously injured. They were treated and all other students are safe.

Willard said several students witnessed the dog being shot.

“We know the whole situation was traumatic for the students and we wanted to bring the matter to the attention of the families,” Willard said. “We want to thank our staff for their professionalism and composure during this event.”
