Adeleke promises to pay the medical bills of the OAU amphitheater victims

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has pledged to pay the medical bills of students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, who were injured in an incident at the institution’s amphitheater recently.

The event occurred on Thursday when heavy rain accompanied by a cyclone hit the amphitheater while students were attending a lecture.

Due to the weather, part of the ceiling collapsed and several students were injured.

Dipo Eluwole, Commissioner for Education in the state, visited the university on behalf of the governor and expressed condolences to the university management and parents of the affected students.

According to a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Saturday by the University Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the governor sympathized with the management of the university and the parents of the affected students.

During the visit, Eluwole was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Osun State Ministry of Education and led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire and other senior officials to the scene of the accident and health facilities where the injured students were receiving treatment.

Eluwole was thrilled by the students’ positive response to the treatment and praised the university’s quick response to the emergency and immediate medical attention to the students.

“Honable Dipo Eluwole, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Osun State Ministry of Education, commended the university management for their quick response to the emergency and prompt medical attention to the students,” the statement said.

At the neurology ward of the University Teaching Hospital, where two other students were being treated, Eluwole urged her parents to view the incident as a natural occurrence beyond human control.

“He thereafter informed the Vice-Chancellor that Governor Adeleke has pledged to fund any medical expenses that may arise in the course of the treatment of the students,” the statement said.

Vice Chancellor Bamire expressed his gratitude and praised Adeleke’s kindness and fatherly role towards the students and people of the state.
