Police investigate series of vandalisms at ATMs in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – Lincoln Police are investigating a series of ATM vandalism incidents early Tuesday morning.

The first vandalism was reported around 3:50 a.m. at Union Bank & Trust near 70th Street and Pioneers Boulevard.

According to police, an ATM belonging to the bank was found “severely damaged, dented and inoperable.” The damage is estimated at $45,000.

Surveillance video showed a silver Hyundai sedan arriving and two men dressed in black and wearing masks attempting to break into the ATM.

According to police, they also hit the ATM with a sledgehammer.

About 10 minutes later, vandalism was reported at another ATM near the corner of 52nd and O Streets.

The ATM and vault doors showed damage “consistent with blows from a sledgehammer, and there were pry marks,” police said.

At around 5 a.m., officers found a Union Bank ATM near the corner of North 48th and Holdrege Streets with its bottom cover broken.

Investigators found a sledgehammer at the crime scene. According to police, the ATM caused $5,000 in damage.

Surveillance video shows two men arriving at Union Bank in a silver Hyundai sedan with the license plate number “8993ACH.”
