Norfolk man arrested after disturbance with firearm | News

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on multiple charges following an incident in Woodland Park Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., police responded to a disturbance call at a Woodland Park residence, Sheriff Mike Unger said in a news release. While officers were en route to the scene, 911 dispatchers reported that the suspect, who gained entry by breaking down a door, was armed with a weapon. Officers made contact with Charles Owens, 38, of Norfolk, and arrested him.

Unger said Owens admitted to having a gun and throwing it into a field shortly before police arrived. He later changed his statement, the sheriff said.

Owens was arrested on suspicion of trespassing, criminal damage, disturbing the peace, third-degree assault, prohibited activity while under the influence of illegal drugs and attempted possession of a dangerous weapon by an unrepresentable person.

The gun was never found despite a thorough search of the area, Unger said. Anyone who sees a gun in Woodland Park is asked to contact the sheriff’s office. Owens was jailed pending bail.
