Open Letter to Buffalo Italian Festival Attendees

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already the end of July and August is just around the corner. That means summer is in full swing in the 716, and while summer is well underway, there’s still plenty to do in the area.

One of the most anticipated events of the year is quickly approaching and I know that, like many other Buffalons, I am looking forward to the Galbani Italian Heritage Festival.

The Galbani Italian Heritage Festival is a 3-day celebration highlighting the heritage, culture and cuisine of the Italian people who have made Buffalo their home and enriched our incredible communities with their contributions.

Every year during the last week of July, thousands of people travel to North Buffalo to enjoy the festival and its incredible activities. There are so many things to do over the weekend, so you often need to plan on attending for multiple days to see it all.

As a North Buffalo resident, I hope you have a great time in my neighborhood as you spend the next few days eating, singing, dancing, tapping your feet, and spending time with family and friends (new and old). However, before you come to our neighborhood, please note that there are a few rules that we, the residents of North Buffalo, would sincerely appreciate if you took note of.

Please park legally

We all know how difficult it can seem to find parking in the city to attend an event, but it’s not that difficult. As a resident of the great city of Buffalo, I know there is plenty of street parking, and we neighbors are thrilled to have you in our neighborhood, but please park legally. My driveway has been blocked off numerous times because someone decided to park anywhere. Trust me, you will not find any sympathy here if you get ticketed, kicked, and/or towed.

Please pick up your trash

Aren’t you disgusted when someone comes to your neighborhood and throws their trash in your yard? Well, so are we! There are plenty of trash cans all over Hertel Avenue, so do us a favor and throw your trash away.

Remember, if you need to relieve yourself, there are portable toilets everywhere.

Does this need to be mentioned? Yes, yes, it is necessary. Please do not use our courtyards as toilets.

Have fun, but remember that people live here

Buffalo is home to some of the most unique festivals in the world, and the best part is that we get to have fun while often eating great food. Remember, when you’re walking around North Buffalo, people live here, so treat our neighborhood the way you would want others to treat yours.

48th Buffalo Juneteenth Celebration, Parade and Festival

Western New York celebrates its 48th annual Juneteenth Parade and Festival on June 17, 2023, in Buffalo’s MLK Park neighborhood. The Grand Parade begins on Genesee Avenue and travels one mile before turning into historic MLK Park where the festival takes place. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery following the end of the American Civil War.
