Attleboro man drowns in jet ski accident in Rutland, authorities say

A 46-year-old Attleboro man died in a jet ski accident in Rutland on Saturday, Rutland police said.

Rutland police and firefighters were called to Turkey Hill Pond around 4:30 p.m. after an overturned jet ski was reported in the water, police said in a statement. Witnesses reported the jet ski’s driver appeared “depressed” before disappearing underwater, police said.

“Emergency responders searched the area by boat and along the shore to locate the person involved. Additional responders arrived at Turkey Hill Pond to assist, including the Fire District 8 dive team, several area fire departments, Massachusetts State Police and Massachusetts Environmental Police,” the department said.

Authorities recovered the body at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday. The person’s name and identity will not be released until next of kin are notified, the agency said. Rutland police said they will continue to investigate the incident along with Massachusetts Environmental Police and Massachusetts State Police.
