A man found dead in his car on U.S. Highway 97 south of Toppenish was shot, authorities said.

Dennis Alex Davido, 52, of Zillah was found in his car early in the morning of July 12. Yakima County Sheriff’s Office officers were called to the area of ​​Larue Road and U.S. Highway 97 on a report of a man shot in a car, according to a sheriff’s office news release Friday.

Officials attempted to save the man’s life, but Davido later died, the release said. Although authorities described his death as an apparent homicide, they did not release the cause of death until an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday.

Davido’s death is the 13th murder in the county this year.
