Non-profit organization providing free home repairs to 100 local families

More than 1,500 volunteers from 50 organizations in 37 states and Canada come together.

BUFFALO, NY — Eight Days of Hope begins its week-long journey to repair homes in Buffalo’s Ellicott District this weekend.

More than 1,500 volunteers from 50 organizations in 37 states and Canada are coming together July 20-27.

Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) is a Christian nonprofit organization that has served communities across the country. Its website states, “We can spread restoration and new beginnings that rebuild not only structures and homes, but hope for every community and person recovering from unthinkable disaster.”

The Buffalo group was founded in 2019 and according to a press release, they have helped over 1,000 local families since then.

Over the next week, volunteers will help roof, paint and repair homes in the City of Buffalo that need a little TLC. They will also install windows, help with landscaping and make porch repairs.

“Individuals across Western New York truly embody what it means to care for one another,” said Kim Lackey, EDOH Buffalo Director.

“I love seeing how our community comes together to improve life in Buffalo, one home at a time. We are so grateful for everyone involved… We are better together, and this outreach is proof of that!”

According to the organization, the City of Buffalo provided a $750,000 American Rescue Plan grant for the project, which is administered and overseen by the City of Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency.

“I am very pleased that Eight Days of Hope is coming to the Ellicott District. Their reputation for transforming neighborhoods is well-deserved, and I am confident that their presence will bring meaningful change to our very diverse community,” said Leah M. Halton Pope, Buffalo Common Council Majority Leader and Ellicott District Councilmember.
