Mother seeks answers after 18-year-old killed in North Lauderdale – NBC 6 South Florida

A family is seeking justice after an 18-year-old woman was shot and killed in North Lauderdale earlier this week.

Bryanna Nina, whose life ended tragically on Monday, was described as a ray of sunshine.

“A very strong personality, beautiful inside and out,” said Marisol Rivas, her mother. “She was loved by so many people.”

Nina was Rivas’ eldest child and, according to her, made friends with everyone.

“Open-minded, very open, a very strong personality, she was so sweet, she was always so helpful to everyone,” Rivas said. “I never thought I would do this, never in my life did I think I would do this.”

The victim, whose name was not released, was shot around 6:44 p.m. in the 1000 block of Southwest 76th Avenue.

Nina was at a friend’s house with one of her sisters and they were waiting outside for an Uber to take them home. Broward investigators said that’s when people got out of a car and started shooting. Nina was shot multiple times and died in the hospital.

“She was trying to escape, she was trying to save her life. No child should ever have to go through this. Those were the most horrific last moments of her life and I wasn’t there, just her sister,” Rivas said.

Rivas keeps going over the last conversation she had with her daughter.

“She walked in the door and I just saw her. Those were my last moments with her. I can’t believe she’s not coming back,” Rivas said.

Investigators told Rivas that her daughter was not the intended target. Now the mother wants to know who and why, and she wants justice.

“I pray that God has the final say,” Rivas said. “I want justice for Bryanna.”

Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding Nina’s murder.
