Macon State Prison inmate dies, investigation ongoing

The man, Jarod Williams, was serving a 20-year prison sentence for manslaughter in Dekalb County.

OGLETHORPE, Georgia – An inmate at Macon State Prison died in custody Wednesday, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

They say Jarod Quayshawn Williams died while serving a 20-year sentence for manslaughter in Dekalb County. He had a maximum of four years left on his sentence, having been incarcerated since 2008.

The Department of Correction’s statement states the cause of Williams’ death.

His body has been turned over to the Macon County Coroner and will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death.

Williams’ death is being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards as usual. For this reason, the GDC will not provide any further information as the investigation is ongoing.
