Cordarralle Patterson talks about possible hybrid role of the “Joker” at the Steelers

After signing a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, Cordarrelle Patterson is ready to take on a variety of roles on the team, and fantasy football managers should take note.

Patterson told Mark Kaboly of The Athletic that he is more than ready for the opportunity to play the hybrid “wild card” position for the Steelers, which would allow him to contribute as a running back, receiver and kick returner.

“Whatever they need,” Patterson said. “I can play anything. I know my role and I know what I can bring to this team. Whatever they need from me, I’m the guy to do it. If they don’t need me by Week 8, then I’m here. I’m here to help these guys get started.”

Patterson, who holds the NFL record with nine kickoff return touchdowns, is used to playing multiple roles because that’s what helped him stay in the league for 11 years. During his last three years with the Atlanta Falcons, he was used in multiple positions and showed that he could excel regardless of his position.

The 33-year-old fully embraced his role as the Joker, posting pictures of Batman’s arch-nemesis on social media and appearing in a full Joker costume in Week 8 of the 2023 season, two days before Halloween. He even wore specially made Joker cleats for the game.

Kaloby noted that the Steelers “have not given any indication of how they plan to use Patterson,” but it is safe to assume that he will have plenty of opportunities to have the ball in his hands.

Fantasy football managers could snag Patterson as a late-round bargain in upcoming drafts because of his ability to impress in a variety of ways.
