Dubois County Fair under investigation after girl falls from ride

DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – A girl at the Dubois County 4-H Fair falls from a ride, prompting an investigation.

Rides at the Dubois County 4-H Fair are currently suspended, but organizers say there are still many other events for community members to enjoy.

According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the safety equipment on the Rock and Roll attraction, which occasionally flips upside down, was not properly secured.

According to state law, every ride must be inspected at least once a year.

David Hosick of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security says “violations were committed during the trip.”

Until repairs are completed, the attraction cannot continue to operate in the state. The owner has 30 days to do so, and the attraction cannot be put back into operation until it passes an inspection by the state Department of Homeland Security.

The fair has not commented on the ride investigation, but says that with or without rides, their focus is on children who have been involved in their 4-H projects.

“We want everyone to come and see what the children are doing. They have put a lot of time and effort into their projects,” says one member.

Bella Buckman of Northeast Dubois High School says of the sheep, “We trained them and practiced their showmanship before the fair. When they were babies, we started putting them up and stuff like that. For the last couple of months, we’ve been training them.”
