2 dead, 3 injured in accident in Sanpete County

SPRING CITY, Sanpete County — Two people were killed in a three-car crash in Sanpete County on Monday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The Utah Department of Public Safety said a Dodge Intrepid slowed down to make a left turn onto a private driveway on State Route 132. A Ford F250 was traveling east behind that car, but the driver failed to slow down and struck the rear of the Intrepid. The collision sent the car into the oncoming lane, where it was struck by an oncoming Toyota Corolla.

Both occupants of the Intrepid were killed in the collision. Three other people, two in the Corolla and one in the truck, were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

UHP Sergeant Chris Bishop said authorities arrived on Highway 132 just before noon. Investigators are looking into the possibility that distracted driving contributed to the crash.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the southbound lanes of SR 132 at Highway 117 and the northbound lanes near Pigeon Hollow Road were closed.
