WCPO Chief Meteorologist Steve Raleigh and son involved in serious traffic accident

Cincinnati ABC affiliate WCPO has responded to an incident involving the chief meteorologist Steve RaleighSon Carter, after he was involved in an accident on June 22 that ended in an attack.

Carter Raleigh was named as the driver involved in an accident with a 79-year-old Douglas Nathaniel Morrow in the parking lot of a local restaurant called Montgomery Inn The Boathouse, according to a Cincinnati Police Department official.

Cincinnati’s City Beat also said that social media users, including a local attorney, claim that one of the men in the video appears to Steve Raleigh.

On 10th of July Stacie Morrow-Stickrod posted an update on the incident on Facebook. According to Morrow-Stickrod’s post, her father, Morrow, as well as her 76-year-old mother and brother were attacked after the traffic accident.

In her post, Morrow-Stickrod said her father called police because he “suspected (the suspects) had been drinking (due to the smell of alcohol).” She said this made the suspects angry, after which they began attacking the family.

According to the Cincinnati media writer John KiesewetterThe police report states that “the suspect approached Victim #1 and struck him in the head with his fist, causing him to fall to the ground and sustain the injuries listed. Victim #2 and Victim #3, while attempting to assist Victim #1, were struck and knocked to the ground by the suspect, resulting in the injuries listed.”

In response Jeff BroganVice President and Director General of WCPO, issued a statement on July 12:

“We are aware of the incident involving Steve Raleigh’s family. It remains under investigation and no charges have been filed against anyone at this time. Steve has shared his side of the incident with our leadership. His account is consistent with the police report, which does not mention his name, and with what we have reviewed on video. The video does not show the incident from beginning to end. We will continue to monitor official findings.”

Morrow-Stickrod said her mother suffered a concussion, a skull fracture, a brain hemorrhage, a bruise on the back of the head and cuts and bruises on her arms and legs. Her father also suffered a concussion.

“These were well-known people locally and in my opinion they believe they are above the law,” Morrow-Stickrod said. “I feel like so much time has gone by without an arrest being made and it’s hard to bear to continue to watch my mother struggle.”

According to CPD Lt. Jonathan CunninghamThe incident is still under investigation.

“It was a traffic accident that led to an assault, and our officers were called,” he told CityBeat. “Our investigators are currently working on the case.”

On Saturday, the Cincinnati native and former Boston Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis posted on Facebook that he was seen in the video. He said he intervened because he saw “a group of people in the parking lot shouting at each other,” including some in Red Sox gear, and he tried to diffuse the situation.

“Unfortunately, I was a little too late and saw a terrible chain of events unfold. Based on what I saw, my intention was to help the two people on the ground and protect everyone else from injury,” said Youkilis, a Red Sox television commentator.
