CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – At a time of grief for his family, a Cabell County man is thinking of those who are the first to arrive at the scene of a tragedy.

On Thursday, July 4, at approximately 9 p.m., Cabell County emergency crews arrived at the scene of a fatal car crash on Route 60 in Barboursville. Three vehicles were involved.

Braxton McComas, 17, of Cabell Midland High School, died when his car was struck by a suspected drunk driver, according to police. Another teenager who was in the car with McComas was injured in the crash.

The community buried Braxton on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Cabell County EMS said Braxton’s grandfather visited just to check on them and bring food to the crews.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the McComas family on the loss of Braxton,” said Gordon Merry, Cabell County EMS Director. “Thank you for your consideration during this time.”

The driver of the second vehicle, Joshua Wilson, was also taken to the hospital and is facing charges of driving under the influence causing death, according to police. The occupants of the third vehicle were not injured, according to Barboursville police.
