Benton woman died when tree fell on her house during Beryl

BOSSIER PARISH, Louisiana (KTAL/KMSS) – The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that one person was killed as a result of severe storms on Monday.

According to a press release, Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington said the sheriff’s office has received numerous reports of storm damage in the area and that officers and crews are currently working to clean it up. Damage includes fallen trees on power lines, roads and buildings, according to authorities. Many areas are also without power.

One storm-related death was reported in the Benton area. A local resident was killed when a tree fell on her home in northeast Benton. Details of the incident are limited at this time.

The trail of devastation began in the southern part of the community in Elm Grove and is still being investigated as far as the Highway 2 area in Plain Dealing. The areas particularly hard hit are Bellevue/Wafer Road in Haughton, Linton-Bellevue/Crouch Road and Old Plain Dealing Road in Benton.

Sheriff Whittington is asking everyone to avoid the affected areas so that damage can be more accurately assessed and cleared from roads and power lines.

Sheriff Whittington would also like to remind everyone that some of the severely affected roads may be closed for some time. It may also take some time for power to be fully restored to some areas of the community.
