The royal family cancels Princess Anne’s next event after her hospital stay

Princess Anne is changing her calendar after being hospitalized last month for a horse-related “incident.”

On July 7, a change was reportedly made to “The Royal Diary” section of the royal family website, concerning King Charles’ 73-year-old sister. The Royal Diary is a directory of official appointments attended by working members of the royal family, with updates published weeks in advance.

“The diary on the @RoyalFamily website has been updated to remove Princess Anne’s engagement next week as she is still recovering from her accident last month,” Gert’s Royals reported over the weekend.

Princess Anne’s next planned excursion, according to the royal diary, is currently a visit to the ship NLV Pharos off the west coast of Scotland in her role as patron of the Northern Lighthouse Board on July 15 and 16.

On June 24, Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Anne had suffered a concussion and minor injuries in a horse riding accident at her country house the previous day and had been hospitalized as a “precautionary measure.”

“The Princess Royal has suffered minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate last night. Her Royal Highness remains at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for observation as a precautionary measure and is expected to make a full and speedy recovery,” a statement said.

“The King has been fully informed and joins the entire Royal Family in conveying his warmest love and best wishes for a speedy recovery to the Princess,” it said.

Due to the concussion Princess Anne suffered, the exact details of the accident cannot be determined, but her injuries suggest possible impact from the head or legs of a horse.

Due to Princess Anne’s injuries, she had to cancel the banquet given by King Charles at Buckingham Palace on June 25 in honour of the Japanese state visit. Her trip to Canada later that week was also cancelled on medical advice.

The Queen was discharged from hospital on 28 June and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, thanked the team at Southmead Hospital for “their care, expertise and kindness” during her stay.

It is understood that Princess Anne will continue to recover at her home in Gatcombe Park and will resume her royal duties once her medical team determines it is safe to do so. On 25 June The Telegraph reported that the king suffered memory loss in connection with the incident, which was believed to be temporary. No further details were given other than that the accident was a hard impact from a horse.

Princess Anne is a keen horsewoman who rode for the British national team at the 1976 Olympics and demonstrated her skills when her horse was spooked in the streets of London during the Trooping the Colour parade on June 15. In April 2023, her daughter Zara Tindall told PEOPLE that horses were a constant topic of conversation between them.

“Our horses are part of our family, so there are always discussions about performing and things like that. There are horses in her life and she does a little bit of breeding, too. So there are always conversations about horses,” Zara told PEOPLE at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by MARS Equestrian.
